The Full Story

Our History

The Ex Blues Club was formed in 1945 by cadets of 228 Squadron (Bromley) Air Training Corps, but was first conceived earlier, around 1942. We are proud of our history and the core foundations the club has been run on since its formation.

Values

Ex Blues' original desire and intention was to not lose touch with reality, and to build something permanent when the war was over. In all the years since formation, the club has maintained its core values of being family friendly and welcoming to all.

The Ground

After formation,  activities were arranged and recorded at monthly meetings, with minutes and newsletters distributed.

Their first ambition was to acquire a sports ground, which would be a lasting memorial to those who did not return from war. Football and Cricket teams were started, and fundraising efforts were ongoing, with raffles, days out, theatre trips, jumble sales and newspaper collections contributing to the coffers.

In the 1960's memberships were increasing, as were club funds, and concerted efforts were made to find a suitable ground.

After many false dawns, our current ground was found, and thanks to extremely hard work, grants, and a small loan, it was purchased in 1968.

Now was the time when the fellowship, team spirit and belonging of the Ex Blues Club came into its own!

Work parties tackled projects to maintain and improve the fairly basic facilities we inherited. Machinery was obtained for ground work, and sports were able to start that year.

During the 1970's a plan was agreed to replace all the existing buildings in stages.

Work commenced in 1977 and was competed 6 years later, being financed from self generated funds, a loan and a grant. An additional lottery grant was received in the 2000s, which improved our sports facilities.
